About Legare and Warranty

Legare is a furniture design and manufacturing company that produces unique, easy and fun to assemble furniture for the home and small office.

Started in late 1999 as an after-hours project and following three years of product design and development, a partnership was formed to optimize manufacturing and increase marketing efforts by combining the global sourcing and distribution expertise it's founders.

The current Legare designs are simply an evolution of this original modular design, with the introduction of some new materials and finishes along the way. All components preserve the original aesthetics and functionality while remaining free of the need for tools or fasteners.

THE LEGARE STORY
The design of the Legare desks was conceived in late 1999 in the offices of Stick Networks, a small, start-up internet company in Dallas, TX. Having little capital to buy furniture, one of the founders, decided to design and build an affordable desk that would have all the features of furniture that they couldn't afford, but that could be built locally on a very low budget.

The design started with a list of requirements gathered from all the people in the office, including:

  • a wrap around work surface that you could rest both arms on
  • shelves for books
  • holes for computer cables
  • modesty panels to close off the bottom of the desks to make workspaces more private
  • modularity to create larger workspaces for workgroups
  • compact storage because the company would build and keep extra desks for later growth and of course, it had to be good looking

After a couple of weeks of drawing, tinkering and mock-ups, the first design emerged. Making use of available resources, the design was cut using a CNC router at a small tradeshow exhibit shop in Fort Worth owned by a friend, Art Fairchild of Artfair Displays. The design consisted of a corner desk and an add-on peninsula that were all cut from only four 5'x5' sheets of Baltic Birch plywood. The design used the material as efficiently as possible with the only scrap left over amounting to little more than a pile of toothpicks.

The use of a CNC router allowed the design to take a unique direction - one that didn't require any tools or fasteners because the CNC router could cut intricate details that would allow the desk pieces to interlock without having to be fastened to one another with hardware.

And the birch plywood was a natural choice because of its strength, high quality surface veneers, and the beauty of its edges whose striations would darken when finished and add to the beauty of the design.

The first design needed only a few tweaks applied to a couple of edges; so a dozen desks were soon cut and sent to a local finisher. About a week later, a truck was rented to carry them home to the office.

There was a little suspense since not everyone in the office knew what the design looked like, but once they saw the desks, the design was very well

received. In fact, the first day was basically an assembly party where everyone put together their own desk (kind of a test to see if they had the skill to keep their job :).

The desks regularly received compliments from visitors, so it didn't take long to realize that the desks should be manufactured and sold to others. And so, the saga began.

The current Legare designs are simply an evolution of this original modular design. All components preserve the original aesthetics and functionality while doing away with the need for tools or fasteners for assembly.

Legare Furniture is warranted to you, the original purchaser, for a period of one (1) year from the date the product is received in your home or office against  defects in the material or workmanship as they relate to the wood furniture  components. The word “defects” as used in this warranty, is defined as  imperfections which impair the utility of the product.

This warranty is expressly limited to the replacement of furniture components  having defects. If the furniture component is defective within the terms of the  warranty, Legare will furnish a replacement furniture component at no cost. No assembly labor is included.

LIMITATIONS AND EXCLUSIONS

While Legare believes its warranty is a good one, there are some limits to it. The following points will limit or exclude coverage under this warranty.

Implied Warranties

LEGARE MAKES NO IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY OR FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE. THESE AND ALL OTHER IMPLIED WARRANTIES ARE SPECIFICALLY DISCLAIMED. By "implied warranties" Legare means warranties that the law sometimes implies to have been given by the seller even though they are not set out in writing. (Some states do not allow an exclusion or limitation on how long an implied warranty lasts, so the above limitations or exclusion may not apply to you).

Place of Purchase

This warranty protects you only when you purchase Legare furniture from an Authorized Legare Retailer.

Household Use

This warranty applies only when you have purchased the Legare furniture for your own normal residential or commercial office use (including use as a gift to another for household or office purposes) and not for resale.

Improper Care and Use

This warranty does not include coverage for natural wood grain characteristics such as grain pattern or painted color. The warranty does not cover lacquer finish degradation or stains from spills such as acids, solvents, dyes, ink, paint, other corrosive chemicals or bodily fluids. We caution the consumer against
improper cleaning, abuse, negligence and/or exposure of furniture to sunlight or extreme heat, since each can cause damage to the lacquered wood veneer finish that is not protected by this warranty.

Your Legare furniture requires some routine maintenance. Please take care to treat your Legare furniture like the fine product it is. Proper care and use are essential to preserving your rights under this warranty. Legare will not replace your furniture if improper maintenance or improper use causes damage. This
warranty does not apply if your Legare product is damaged by the use of detergents, abrasives or other harsh cleaning agents.

Accidents, Abuse and Normal Wear and Tear

This warranty does not cover damage resulting from negligence, abuse, normal wear and tear of finish, or accidents: including burns, scratches, scuffs, watermarks, indentations or pet damage.

Product Modification

Any product modification by dealer, consumer, or other parties not authorized by Legare will void this warranty.

Floor Samples or Products purchased "AS IS"

This warranty does not cover floor samples or products designated "AS IS" at the time of purchase.

Differences From Floor Samples or Literature

Because of finishing craftsmanship or use of natural wood, laminate or painted finish materials, minor variations can occur from piece to piece. Therefore, this warranty does not cover such minor differences in grain pattern or color between floor samples, website images or printed photographs and your furniture.

Consequential or Incidental Damages

LEGARE WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR CONSEQUENTIAL OR INCIDENTAL DAMAGES. By this Legare means any loss, expense, or damage other than to the furniture itself that may result from a defect in the furniture. (Some states do not allow the exclusion or limitation of incidental or consequential damages, so
the above limitation or exclusion may not apply to you.)

YOUR WARRANTY RIGHTS

This warranty gives you specific legal rights, and you may also have other rights, which vary, from state to state. Except for such other rights, the remedies provided under this warranty state the limit of Legaré's responsibilities.
